Free Post: My Weekend

This weekend I did not really do too much. On Friday I did not have any practices so I got to leave school at the normal time. When I got home I was so tired that I laid on the couch and took about an hour nap. After my nap I tried to decide whether or not I should do some homework or play xbox and watch march madness. You can probably guess which one I chose. I couldn't go anywhere that night because on Saturday morning I had to wake up really early to go drive. After I finished my driving session, I went home and took another nap. Then around 2:00 I had to go to Stop n Go to go take my drivers ed test. There were about 6 other people there to take the test and I was the only one under 25 years old. I won't know my test grade until Monday, so hopefully I passed. Later that night I went to a wedding shower my parents and two other families hosted for my friends brothers wedding. They were my friends from St. George. It was really fun hanging out with them, since I do not reall

Purple Hibiscus  is very intriguing and has surprised me with its very savage type plot. This book gives us a  vivid display of Nigerian culture and shows us how the household is ran in Nigeria. This book enables us to see how the characters think and react to certain reoccurrences in their lives. In the book Papa pretty much does whatever he wants and no matter how bad it is no one interferes and they keep on with their lives like nothing happened. In the book, it does not ever directly say that Papa beats Mama, but it is certainly implied and is very easy to infer. Papa has asserted himself as the sole leader in their house and even in their town. Papa is very devout and wants his kids to be the top grade in their school. Papa has his own way of getting what he wants, and it usually pertains to violence. Everyone in the town loves him and adores him, but they do not know the true Brother Eugene like his own family does.

Poem

Although a long drive, I honestly don't mind. I usually play on my phone, then sleep like a stone. I was awoken by a loud PLOP! Then I started to feel my ears pop. We arrived at our home for the week, at the top of the peak. I did not lollygag, as I unpacked my bag. I went to the see the breathtaking view, all I could see was green and blue. The hikes were very long, but we had to remain strong. Seeing the amazing waterfalls, so peaceful and tall. The beautiful trees and flowers, so much different from ours. I do not know whats better than a trip to the mountains. I used Onomatopoeia, simile, and Internal rhyme.

Song Lyrics (Umbrella)

Rhianna and Jay Z use euphony, alliteration and assonance to portray a certain meaning of the song. An example of alliteration of the "G" sound is in the first verse when Jay Z says, "Good Girl Gone Bad", and an example of assonance of the "A" sound is when Jay Z says, "Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame". The whole song is euphonic and the words all flow nicely together, especially when Rhianna is singing her verses like "Because when the sun shines, we'll shine together, told you I would be here forever". This whole song is about love and friendship. Rhianna is saying that in the worst times, no matter the conditions she will always be there for "you". When she says, "Its raining" (multiple times) she is referring to the hardships and struggles of life. Those poetic devices help the story flow and tell its true story.

My weekend was very fun! It started off on Friday night at the varsity basketball game. We played Newman in the quarterfinals, and won! After the game the players and coaches cut down the net and then we gave Coach Beckman a water bath with the water cooler to celebrate the victory. This will be the second consecutive year we will be going to the semi-finals. Then I had to wake up early to do my first driving appointment in order to get my driver's permit. It was really fun driving around Baton Rouge for two hours and not getting a wreck. Later that day I got ready for the SJA sweetheart dance. We went to someone's house to take pictures before the dance. Then we went and ate at Gino's, and the food was very good. Then we went to the dance. The dance was really fun and the best part was getting to see all my friends from St. George and some other schools. Then we went and hung out at my friends house after the dance. Then me and my friend went back to his house and stayed

Launch Response Post

One of the presentations that stood out to me was Mary Caroline's thesis about dreams. She showed how stress, sleep, and school are all connected to each other. All three of these things control our way of life. They are all apart of a cause and affect cycle, we go to school everyday, which causes lots of stress, and the stress which lessens the amount of sleep we get. She also said that stress doesn't only affect the amount of sleep we get, but it also affects our dreams. Overall Launch Day was more fun than I thought it would be. The presentations were all very interesting and engaging. It was cool how the presentations were in lots of different places and not just in the VPAC. The breaks at the "Launchpad" was also very fun. We got to decorate our own cookies and then eat them. The music and dancing was also really entertaining.
