PH Response

Purple Hibiscus is very intriguing and has surprised me with its very savage type plot. This book gives us a  vivid display of Nigerian culture and shows us how the household is ran in Nigeria. This book enables us to see how the characters think and react to certain reoccurrences in their lives. In the book Papa pretty much does whatever he wants and no matter how bad it is no one interferes and they keep on with their lives like nothing happened.
In the book, it does not ever directly say that Papa beats Mama, but it is certainly implied and is very easy to infer. Papa has asserted himself as the sole leader in their house and even in their town. Papa is very devout and wants his kids to be the top grade in their school. Papa has his own way of getting what he wants, and it usually pertains to violence. Everyone in the town loves him and adores him, but they do not know the true Brother Eugene like his own family does.
