Poem

Although a long drive, I honestly don't mind. I usually play on my phone, then sleep like a stone. I was awoken by a loud PLOP! Then I started to feel my ears pop. We arrived at our home for the week, at the top of the peak. I did not lollygag, as I unpacked my bag. I went to the see the breathtaking view, all I could see was green and blue. The hikes were very long, but we had to remain strong. Seeing the amazing waterfalls, so peaceful and tall. The beautiful trees and flowers, so much different from ours. I do not know whats better than a trip to the mountains. I used Onomatopoeia, simile, and Internal rhyme.

LOTF Reading Response Pg. 91

The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away.  Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...] "The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!" "Who cares?" Ralph summoned his wits. "Because the rules are the only thing we've got!" But Jack was shouting against him. "Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91) This paragraph shows that the boys were forgetting the ways of the old civilization they once knew before life on the island. The ideas of orders,  organization, and rules were slowly neglected. This fault in their society caused the boys to split up into two different tribes and also caused the death of Piggy and Simon. A&P

A&P by John Updike, is a shorty story based in the 1960's about an 18 year old Sammy works at the A&P store and tries to impress these girls who are shopping in the store. This story shows the difference in class in the 1960's. Sammy is shown as a lower class teenager who works at the grocery store to help provide for his family. While these three girls walk into the store in the middle of the day in bathing suits saying their mother sent them to buy some herring snacks. This shows that the higher class had more privileges than the lower class or at least they thought so. This story also exemplifies how you should always stay true to your word, no matter what it is. In the story Sammy is outraged by the way Lengel treats the young ladies. He exclaimed that he quit in an act of heroism towards the girls, not realizing the consequences of his actions.
